PC.IGN has whipped up a preview on Ion Storm's upcoming stealth title, Thief: Deadly Shadows, after getting a chance to check it out hands-on. Here's a nugget:
The city is also ripe with targets. Immediately upon leaving your room, you can pick your way into your landlord's apartment, watching out for his guard, and steal his valuables. Maybe not the nicest thing in the world, but whatever, you're a thief. Picking the lock in this case is a time crunch as the guard is on patrol and the lock is complicated. The PC version of the game uses a system where you have to watch the lock mechanism in the lower right corner of the screen and search for sweet spots in each level of the lock until it opens up and you can move to the next level. It's an interesting way to go about the task and is much more fun than games that just have a progress bar showing how long it will take. It actually takes a small bit of skill to complete the task and can add even more tension to your experience.
Yummy!
