Historically, Ultra has not been widely embraced by the enthusiast community. However, with the X-Pro line, they have definitely released an overclocker-friendly power supply. TechGage has just reviewed the Ultra X-Finity & X-Pro 800 watt power supplies.

Here’s what they had to say:

“One thing that I would like to see in future power supplies from Ultra is the incorporation of a 120mm fan. This allows the PSU to operate much more quietly but still move a decent amount of air. One thing to point out is that while these use a pair of smaller 80mm fans, they were not terribly loud when compared to the Silver Power SP-1000W.

With everything taken into consideration, the Ultra 800W X-Pro and X-Finity both receive a 7 out of 10. They work well, are relatively quiet and provide more than enough power for most.”

I don’t really agree with giving a combined score for both power supplies, since they are two very difference products, the X-Pro being vastly superior. As I have said in the past, the Ultra X-Pro line is one of my personal favourites, due to its impeccably solid rails. If you find this PSU for cheaper than comparable Coolermaster, Silverstone, or Thermaltake products, it is definitely worth serious consideration.
