Although the delays, and the initial performance, left many people disappointed with the Radeon HD 2900 XT, AMD has done a terrific job improving the card’s overall performance through monthly driver updates. MVKTech has just reviewed the Jetway Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics card, featuring 512MB of GDDR3.

Let’s see what they had to say:

“The Jetway Radeon HD 2900 XT card is an outstanding graphics card that promises to deliver outstanding performance for any game you can throw at it at a very reasonable price tag. We proved that the Radeon HD 2900 XT can handle gaming at excellent frame rates, and does perform well at Extreme HD resolutions. So, if you are looking for a new GPU for an upgrade or fresh system build, you will find the Jetway Radeon HD 2900 XT very inviting as the price is modest and the performance is outstanding.”

Based on these benchmarks, with the new Catalyst 7.7 drivers, the Radeon HD 2900 XT provides superior overall performance than the Geforce 8800GTS 640MB. The main exception to this is in FarCry, where the Radeon gets slaughtered, unless HDR is enabled. If you have a power supply that can handle it, and don’t mind the noisy cooler, it’s definitely worth a look.
