bit-tech has posted a brief look at the retail-ready ECS X58B-A Black Series, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5P, and Gigabyte GA-EX58 Extreme.

Here's what they had to say:

  • ECS tips hat to X58B-A Black Series:

"Not everyone wants an expensive, super-OC motherboard with tons of features that they'll probably never use, and ECS is not one rated to build the best BIOSes in the world so we agree: why waste money adding extra hardware if the software isn't up to taking advantage? In a market where X58 board prices could likely be spiralling out of control, the X58A-B might possibly be worth a second look, and we always retain a cautious optimism about new products - after all, recently companies like Biostar have proven an extreme overclocker favourite. When it comes to pushing the boundaries though, the “Black” series has a long way to go before it’s anywhere near enthusiast."

  • Gigabyte shows bit-tech its final X58 boards:

"Gigabyte will launch three X58 motherboards in a few weeks – the Extreme, the UD5P and the UD5. All will feature Ultra Durable 3 with Gigabyte’s new 2oz copper layer in the PCB, Dynamic Energy Saver advanced, 50-squillion hour Jap caps and Dolby Home Theatre audio with the premium Realtek AL889a sound codec.

Style wise, Gigabyte has heard our (and others) concerns and updated its design massively, with a largely positive effect. While adamant that it doesn’t want to follow down the “black PCB = enthusiast” route, we think its blue-white-silver approach looks really something fresh. While I personally would have loved Gigabyte to have gone that much further and make the USB pin-outs blue and orange slots silver/grey, overall we feel the change is certainly a step forward. Drop in some ambient blue and white lighting in a case and this could look pretty pimped out."

These are some sweet looking motherboards, and hopefully we won't have to wait much longer for the Core i7 processors to launch!
