Lately, my inbox has been getting filled with Windows 7-related articles, so I figured that I would select a few of the more noteworthy pieces and post them for your enjoyment.
- Guru3D: Windows 7 (Final) vs. Windows Vista VGA game performanceþ:
"Windows 7 is a very promising platform for many reasons. For me personally, Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be really. With our pretty spiffy test platform we can tell you that it's a pleasure of an operating system to work with. It's fast, good looking, diverse and most of all... very stable on all levels. Neither with the NVIDIA or ATI graphics cards did we run into any issues, and that is quite remarkable considering we are at the threshold of a new operating system era.
The VGA drivers are not only stable, they work really well and perform good as well. I was afraid that with the coming of a new OS we'd see a performance drop just like we had with the transition from Windows XP to Vista, but if anything, Windows 7 VGA performance is as good as Windows Vista with the obviously occasional random fluctuation in performance here and there though. Looking at the opposite side, Windows 7 won't offer performance increases in graphics performance either with an exception here and there."

- TweakTown: ATI Catalyst vs. NVIDIA ForceWare VGA Performance in Win 7:
"So, which driver is better? Well, let's look at it like this. For every positive result, that driver set gets a +1. For no gain we see the driver get 0, while for a drop in performance the driver gets a -1. What all this results in is the ForceWare setup getting a -5 and the Catalyst one getting a +12
The winner by a clear margin is the Catalyst driver suite, making them the best driver for Windows 7. Of course this doesn't mean that you should install the Catalyst driver on your GTX 285, nor does it mean you can. But if you're using an ATI graphics card you can install Windows 7 knowing that for the most part your performance is going to be up more often than down."

- TweakTown: Windows 7 vs. Vista CPU & Memory Performance Comparison:
"When it comes to having a look at pure CPU performance, it seems that Windows 7 isn't quite as efficient as Windows Vista. As for memory, though, there isn't a whole lot of difference. On the down side you're not going to be breaking any wPrime records under Windows 7 for the moment.
On the other hand, while the CPU scores are lower, when it comes to graphics card performance we can tell from our previous articles that Windows 7 does a good job of keeping up with the older and more mature operating system; it coming out in front at times and sometimes falling slightly back."

- TweakTown: Windows 7 (Final OEM) vs. Windows Vista VGA Performance:
"If you're happy with the overall graphics card performance you receive from Windows Vista, but think it's time to jump on the new Windows 7 bandwagon, you can know that you're not going to be disappointed with low frame rates in the newly released operating system.
When Vista launched it was nice to have all those new bells and whistles. The problem was that if you were a gamer you would quickly find yourself greeted with BSODs, random crashing and poor FPS. Out of the gate we don't have this issue with Windows 7; the only notable problem we did have was when we tried to run the FC2 Benchmark Tool from the desktop shortcut created, it would just crash instead of opening. If you went directly into the FC2 folder, however, and ran it there, the program would run without an issue."
