Rbmods and techPowerUp have reviewed two gaming mice from SteelSeries, the Kinzu and Xai.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Rbmods: Steelseries Xai Gaming Mouse:

"Well this is a cool mouse I have to admit, it's comfortable to use even though it's made for both left and right handed people. I actually ended up replacing my own old mouse with this one for my main setup due to the fact it's so comfortable and very easy to work with.

It almost came up to the 1000Hz limit as it says in specs and ~960Hz is really nothing to complain about, I had no lagg at all in games or normal usage and I really doubt you will find any either.

The software was very easy to work with and also very logical, even a beginner user could set this mouse up without any issues. The only thing I wish this mouse would have had is a 10$ lower pricetag to actually really compete with Roccat and other mice on the market but as said I swapped for this on my main rig so if you got the extra 10$ it sure is worth it."

  • techPowerUp: SteelSeries Kinzu Optical Gaming Mouse:

"This mouse should definitely be on your short list if you are a FPS gamer looking for a budget mouse. Since this mouse has a wealthy resolution of up to 3200 DPI and excellent scaling downwards, it can both be the high and low sensitivity gamer's weapon. Unlike the elderly 3200 DPI laser sensors the optical sensor employed by the Kinzu is able to be adjusted down to a mere 400 DPI and still yield excellent performance. Couple the tracking capabilities with the perfect mouse feet, a light weight body, short travel buttons and a lift off distance of only 2 mm and you are in for quite a treat.

The fact that the sensor scales well means that you are not tied to the native resolution of the sensor which can come in handy for low sensitivity gamers. The lift off distance is low, but not as low as that of the newest type laser sensors. Of course we have yet to see mice with these laser sensors in the sub $ 40 / € 30 price range where the Kinzu roams."

While the Xai seems very well-rounded gaming mouse, it is a little too expensive at $90. On the other hand, the Kinzu seems like a relative bargain.
