LanOC and PC Perspective have reviewed the MSI 890FXA-GD70, a relatively high-end AMD 890FX-based motherboard that supports both SATA 6Gb/s and USB 3.0.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • LanOC:

"After living with the 890FXA-GD70 for a few weeks now I am impressed by MSI’s attention to detail and well thought out software. I found the BIOS to be a little difficult to work with, but considering all the features packed into it, it comes as no surprise. When paired with a good CPU, RAM, and video card you have the makings of an amazing build. MSI has included anything you could ask for including SATA6 and a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the I/O panel. My only complaints about the board were limited to issues running the Mushkin ram and how overwhelming the BIOS can be. Beyond that there is no reason to wait; you could be killing zombie dogs in Metro 2033 right now!"

  • PC Perspective:

"MSI designed a very good board, and the price is one of the best in the class. While the MSRP is higher than some of the competition, it is still well below the top products from Asus (and is comparable to in performance and features).

Overall it is an excellent board at a very competitive price. MSI did a very nice job on this one, and I am seriously considering using this particular board as the basis for upgrading my primary machine (it is running one of the first 790FX AM2+ motherboards with the not-so-impressive SB600 southbridge). So with that particular recommendation, it is a no brainer that it receives the Gold Award from PCPer.com."

This is an excellent high-end AM3 motherboard, and at $200 it's $20-40 cheaper than comparable 4-Way CrossFireX capable 890FX motherboards from ASUS and Gigabyte.
