APH Networks and ThinkComputers have reviewed two G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 8GB memory kits, which feature timings of 7-8-7-24-2T @ 1.60V or 9-9-9-2T @ 1.50V.

Here's what they had to say:

  • APH Networks:

"The G.SKILL Ripjaws F3-12800CL7D-8GBRH 2x4GB dual channel memory kit is a bold statement in today's saturated computer RAM market. What really makes it stand out of the crowd is its optimal balance between high performance, low price, and maximum capacity. No, this is not one of those "pick any two" scenarios. You want high performance and low price? You lose out on capacity. Want high performance and maximum capacity? You pay the price. Want low price and maximum capacity? Say goodbye to performance. But G.SKILL's Ripjaws DDR3-1600 2x4GB CL7 set allows you to choose all three, all at the same time. And this is what that makes it so impressive."

  • ThinkComputers:

"Testing the ram it provided pretty good speeds in all the tests. I was a little disappointed that I was unable to push it further but I don’t know what was not working correctly I spent a few days trying to go further and just playing in the BIOS to push it. I don’t know if it’s the fact that’s it’s a larger memory kit since its 8GB kit and I know the 4GB kits can go pretty far sometimes. Along with the memory having XMP profiles to help out the newer people who build systems and don’t know how to hit the right memory speeds you can just enable the XMP and your memory will be running at the default speeds of 1600Mhz, but overall the G.Skill Ripjaws yet proved to be good in a lot of areas with being at stock settings."

The CL9 kit is priced at $160, while the CL7 kit comes in at $190, both the cheapest for 8GB memory kits at their respective CAS timings.
