AMD Radeon HD 6790 1GB Launched!

AMD have just launched a brand new mainstream graphics card series, headlined by the Radeon HD 6790. This new graphics card features a 40nm GPU clocked at 840Mhz, 800 shader cores, and a 1GB 256-bit 4.2Ghz GDDR5 memory interface. Thanks to the middle-of-the-road specs, the TDP has been kept at a relatively low 150W. Given that this card is in direct competition with the equally new GeForce GTX 550 Ti, it features an identical $149 price tag.

I will repeat here what I said in the GeForce GTX 550 Ti news post: this new model will be forever be in the shadows of the GeForce GTX 460 768MB and Radeon HD 6850 as long as it stays at its ~$150 price point.
