Hardware Secrets, Legit Reviews, and PC Perspective have reviewed two Intel Sandy Bridge based notebooks from ASUS, the K53 and N53 models.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • Hardware Secrets: ASUS N53SV Notebook Review:

"After all everything has been considered, the ASUS N53SV is a very well-rounded notebook with one glaring exception: the sound system. This is nothing you can't fix with a pair of external speakers or headphones though, so the poor sound quality shouldn't rule this notebook out, in our opinion. That said, if you listen to video or music a lot with the on-board sound system, the ASUS N53SV might not be the perfect machine for you."

  • Legit Reviews: ASUS K53E 15.6-inch Notebook Review:

"The ASUS K53E proved to be a very potent notebook thanks to Intel's Sandy Bridge 2nd generation Core i5-2520M mobile processor that is uses. This notebook blazed through the benchmarks with relative ease and proved to be an ideal notebook for those that are looking for a good mix between performance and portability. We also found that the battery life wasn't that bad as we got about 3.25 hours of DVD playback and 4 hours of wireless web surfing before the battery called it a day."

  • PC Perspective: ASUS N53S Core i7-2630QM Sandy Bridge 15-in Notebook Review:

"There are a few rough edges. The display of the N53 is quite poor for a laptop of this price, and the squishy keyboard is a nasty oversight in a laptop with an otherwise luxurious finish. However, these problems are tolerable considering this laptop’s performance. The ASUS N53 is a hardware powerhouse; indeed, it’s a testament to the fact that computer processors – quick though they may be – still have significant room for improvement in the future, and those improvements will positively impact the quality of the computer you receive for your money."

  • PC Perspective: ASUS K53 Review: Mass Market Dual-Core Sandy Bridge:

"But while the hardware in the K53E may be excellent, it can’t save this laptop, at least not in this configuration. The bargain-priced K53E-A1, with a Sandy Bridge Core i3 processor and a price tag of around $625, is worth consideration among users who want an inexpensive powerhouse. Our review model is akin to the K53E-B1, however, which has a much higher price of $750. The hardware is fast enough to justify spending the extra dough, but the so-so chassis doesn't fit the higher price."

Back to drawing for ASUS with these two models, they seem to have too many non-performance related flaws to recommend.
