Hardware Canucks and techPowerUp have reviewed the very high-end MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition 3GB graphics card, which features a custom cooler and overclocked specifications.
Let's see what they had to say:
- Hardware Canucks:
"In our opinion, MSI has a winner on its hands that likely wont be eclipsed for some time. 3GB of memory may be dubious in its usefulness in some scenarios but with DX11 games demanding more and more memory resources, wed highly recommend this type of layout for upcoming games. If ultra high resolution gaming isnt your thing, the vanilla Lightning is out there but Xtreme Edition still is one hell of a card thats well worth its asking price but only to those who can absolutely afford it."

- techPowerUp:
"MSI's new GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition builds on the success of the previous Lightning GTX 580. The only performance related difference is the inclusion of 3 GB of memory instead of 1.5 GB like on the successor. Unfortunately thoughout our testing this could not result in a significant performance increase. I could imagine there being some difference with super high AA settings and multi monitor gaming, but the raw GPU power will quickly be a limiting factor here. This does not mean that the card is slow by any means. It handled everything we threw at it with flying colors, 2560x1600 is the resolution you want to use this card on."

Obviously, this is a very impressive graphics card, but frankly if you are spending this much money on a graphics card, you might as well spend $150 more for a GeForce GTX 590.
