MadCatz M.O.U.S.9 Bluetooth Mouse Review
June 18, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
eTeknix have posted a review of the Mad Catz R.A.T. M.O.U.S. 9 bluetooth gaming mouse, which features a 990 DPI sensor and utilizes a single AA battery.
Lets's see what they had to say:
"I still feel it’s worthy of our editors choice award, I would happily buy one of these today had I the need for a wireless mouse, it really is a joy to work with. Yet I must admit that Mad Catz need to improve the battery compartment cover in a future revision as for this price range there should be nothing that feels “cheap” about the build."
Promising products, but ultimately far too expensive for what you get, especially if the materials feel cheap.

ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC Graphics Card Review
June 18, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Guru3D have reviewed the high performance Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce OC graphics card, which features a custom cooler and overclocked specifications.
Let's see what they had to say:
"Silky smooth and fluid framerates is what you'll get thanks to the tremendous horsepower at hand with this ASUS GTX 780. It does so while hardly making any noise and with dynamically adjustable temperatures you can decide yourself how hot your GPU may run. The card is a nice chunk faster compared to the GeForce GTX 680, 770 and the Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition. Compared to equivalent multi-GPU products that dynamic changes though but I'm not even certain if we should compare to that. If you opt the ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 edition, then you are in for something unique. It's quite silent and runs at Titan like performance levels (with small offsets here and there). The board offers great looks and quality components. We love the backplate btw, as it makes the card sturdy and it remains horizontal while installed inside your PC (not bending through)."
As we've come to expect from ASUS, this Direct CU II OC model is very impressive and arguably worth the price premium over reference models.

Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 850W Power Supply Review
June 18, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
PC Perspective have reviewed the Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 850W modular power supply, which is 80PLUS Platinum certified, features a 135mm fan, and a 5 year warranty.
Let's see what they had to say:
"Be Quiet! has taken an already great power supply in the form of a Seasonic X-series unit, and made it even better. The enhancements made to the Dark Power Pro 10 850W power supply translates to “legendary silence and cutting edge performance”; just like Be Quiet! claims. The custom designed SilentWings fan is virtually silent at low to mid power levels. Voltage regulation is excellent, efficiency is excellent, the DC outputs are very clean, and the Dark Power Pro 10 850W PSU comes with an excellent assortment of modular cables and connectors. Add to that the ability to select either single or multi +12V rail operation, the ability to automatically control up to four case fans, Haswell CPU deep sleep state support, and rubberized end caps for noise and vibration isolation and you have a very interesting and competent new power supply."
This is a very high performance and thoroughly modern power supply, check it out if you're building a new system and want a very high quality PSU.

Attitude One Saiga Gaming Mousepad Review
June 18, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Rbmods have posted a review of the affordable Attitude One Saiga gaming mousepad.
Let's see what they had to say:
"These mousepads are inexpensive, and not in terms of quality but when it comes to the price. I mentioned that you can pick the biggest one up for 25$ while the cheapest and smallest version most likely will be available for around 7$. The mousepads are way better than any cheap mosuepad you can buy at Walmart or similar and they can for sure compete with higher end mousepads when it comes to gaming. The question is though; for how long? The only con I found is that they are hard to clean and if you have to use a wet rag to clean them off, I have to ask myself how long will they stay in good shape since cleaning them of wears mousepads out quite fast in general."
If you don't want to spend a lot of money on a mousepad, this might just been the product you've been looking for.

Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 Gaming Keyboard Review
June 18, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Benchmark Reviews have posted a review of the customisable MadCatz S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 modular gaming keyboard.
Let's see what they had to say:
"The lack of the V.E.N.O.M. TFT LCD Touchscreen has a direct effect on the pricing of the S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 Adjustable Gaming Keyboard and so right now you can find it for USD173.44 inside the USA and for 205Euros inside the EU a price tag which is roughly 30% cheaper than what the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 currently retails for. Overall both members of the S.T.R.I.K.E. family by Mad Catz are amazing but in the end they are way too expensive for most people and with so many mechanical keyboards placed at around the USD100/100Euros price range only hardcore gamers and enthusiasts will opt for one of these two. Still we are here to also award quality, features, innovation and performance not just the price of a product and for those the S.T.R.I.K.E. 5 Adjustable Gaming Keyboard walks away with our Golden Award."
Much like the higher-end STRIKE 7, this is an cool keyboard, but the lack of mechanical key switches and high price tag will turn off many potential buyers.

Func MS-3 Gaming Mouse Review
June 14, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Hardware Canucks have posted a review of the Func MS-3 gaming mouse which features a 5670 DPI sensor and 12 buttons.
Let's see what they had to say:
"FUNC’s firs touting into the gaming mouse market clearly shows their dedication to providing enthusiasts with a well-rounded product. The MS-3 may not be unique in its ergonomics, features, specifications or even software, but the sum is greater than its parts. When taken as a whole this mouse is one of the few that doesn’t exhibit any glaring issues and provides an excellent platform for veterans and novices alike. It is an extremely good, if lightweight, wired gaming peripheral with a well thought out and executed design. If you have are looking for a large yet extremely comfortable and highly capable mouse, the MS-3 deserves serious consideration."
If you want an exceptionally comfortable mouse, then this might just be the input peripheral you've been looking for.

NZXT Phantom 630 Full Tower Case Review
June 14, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
KitGuru have posted a review of the NZXT Phantom 630 full tower case, which is a smaller, cheaper, and slightly more conservative successor to the impressive Phantom 820.
Let's see what they had to say:
"The NZXT Phantom 630 is a very good chassis that offers the cooling performance, layout and flexibility that multi-VGA and watercooling users demand.
Fitting large hardware such as XL-ATX and E-ATX motherboards with multiple graphics cards into the Phantom 630 is not a problem. The spacious interior and well-thought design give users plenty of flexibility when opting for their high-end hardware.
Cable management is one of the Phantom 630′s biggest strengths. NZXT has excelled yet again to create a cable management system that makes a neat and attractive build very easy to achieve. With plenty of space behind the motherboard tray, one isn’t required to spend excessive amounts of time organising the routed cables just so the side panel will fit in place."
Much like the 820, this is a freaking sweet case. Check it out!

AMD A10-6800K Richland APU Review
June 14, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
KitGuru have posted a review of the new AMD A10-6800K 'Richland' accelerated processing unit (APU), which has a default clock of 4.1GHz, can Turbo up to 4.4GHz, has 4MB of L2 cache, a range topping Radeon HD 8670D GPU, 100W TDP, and quite reasonable $150 price tag.
Let's see what they had to say:
"We feel that the AMD Vision A10-6800K offers good value for money at a price of around £110 from Aria. It is ideal for those users who don’t need a discrete graphics card but would perhaps like to game occasionally or would like the performance benefits of GPU acceleration. It is also be ideal for those users looking to build an HTPC as it offers more than enough grunt for this scenario."
The CPU and GPU portions of Richland haven't really improved over Trinity, merely the clocks have increased. Basically, this is a miniscule evolutionary refresh and rehash of AMD's previous generation APUs, offering a bit more performance for a bit more money.

ASUS RT-AC66U 802.11ac Wireless-AC1750 Router Review
June 14, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Legit Reviews have posted a review of the brand new ASUS RT-N66U, a high performance 802.11ac dual-band wireless router that supports dara rates up to 1300Mbps.
Here's an excerpt:
"The ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band 802.11ac router was pretty incredible to work with. Setting aside the conversation centering on Wi-Fi speed for a moment, the GUI is feature-packed with almost everything anyone – newbies to power users – would want in an interface.
Working with the ASUS RT-AC66U is very painless and the interface responses to commands quickly with no delays between pages or input settings. From our initial setup to configuring and customizing our wireless network and access, the ASUS didn’t disappoint.
With respect to the wireless speeds, like all 802.11ac routers we have tested over the past several months, the AC66U showed us incredible speeds over our ‘typical’ wireless-N. Even though the ASUS router didn’t ‘win’ our speed tests, you have to look at the larger picture in that if you are stepping up to an AC-router, from an ancient 802.11b/g/n, you will notice a difference from the time you turn the device on."
This is another excellent router from a company that has quickly made a name for itself in the WiFi game.

Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Case Review
June 14, 2013 - Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Guru3D have posted a review of the Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 mid-tower case, which is an updated to the very well reviewed original Arc Midi.
Let's see what they had to say:
"The Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 is a nice step up from its initial model. The new side see-through side panel gives it a little more niche, as well as the curvature and many options. The chassis is very feature rich with the removable dust filters, many HDD cages, mainboard backside tray SSD hideout, the included fan controller and of course the three fans. Aimed at a more performance hungry crowd, the ARC Midi R2 offers good airflow with its three fans. Though not 100% silent it is silent enough. Once again a quality build from a quality company. Highly recommended and approved. Oh and again, the photos do not do the chassis any real justice, try and look for it in a retail store. You can purchase the ARC Midi R2 for roughly 90 EUR."
This looks like another well designed, fully featured, and surprisingly affordable mid-tower case by Fractal Design. I like it a lot.
