Shuttle's upcoming Car PC

Tue 2007-03-20 - Posted by Davinder "DsK" Kundi
How does a Core 2 Duo rig in your car sound? Just imagine all the things you could do; movies on the go, your entire music collection, surf the web, watch a movie, the possibilities are endless!

The guys at Tweak Town have some pictures and specifications of the car PC from CeBit 2007:

  • Measures just 279(D) x 230(W) x 70(H)mm
  • Based on Intel 945GM and ICH7M chipset
  • Core 2 Duo T2400
  • Notebook hard drive and SO-DIMM memory
  • Intel GMA950
  • Intel 7.1 HD sound

Quite a nice specification for such a form factor, and I guess we wouldn’t expect anything less from Shuttle. Here is the blurb to go with the box:

The "CarPC", an integrated device with a special designed power supply and thermo technology, features Shuttle's cross field design. Using car power supply, the system will auto shutdown after turning off the ignition key without losing data or system crash. Also, Shuttle's exclusive "fin flake chassis" radiate heat effectively. CarPC is not only for car use but also for difficult environments.

Looks like they've put a lot of thought into the working of this device. Judging from the pictures it will have quite a few nice features like DVI, USB ports and Ethernet. What use they have in a car based PC is a little obscure, but I’m sure many will appreciate it.
