nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB vs. 1280MB in SLI mode
With the prices of the 320MB version of the 8800GTS dropping it may actually seem like a good time to snap up another card for some high resolution SLI gaming with all the frills of AA and AF. The guys at Tweak Town have on test a pair of 320MB and 640MB 8800GTS. Here is a snippet from the conclusion:
"We can pretty much see across the board that the 640MB cards in SLI continue to give us a performance increase when compared to the 320MB versions. Money permitting we would always suggest that you make the move to the 640MB card if you’re running resolutions in excess of 1600 x 1200, closer to 1920 x 1200 and above." I would suggest that if you’re interested in an 8800 SLi setup you definitely have a look at the full review.
It seems like nVIDIA still has some driver issues to work out with these cards in SLI, they perform well in synthetics, but give some slightly odd results in game benches. However, they still give you quite a bit of raw power to play with and make gaming with AA and AF at resolutions in excess of 1920 x 1200 a reality.
