Gigabyte Odin GT 800W Power Supply Review
As I mentioned
yesterday, Gigabyte is a company that is expanding into new sectors, namely cases and power supplies. Legion Hardware has just posted a review of the Gigabyte Odin GT 800W power supply.
Let’s see what they had to say:
“The fan could have been a little quieter under load, which was a shame. While the operating volume was acceptable under normal operating circumstances, it did become quite loud when stress testing. The other criticism we have of the Gigabyte Odin GT 800w is that it uses four 12v rails; a single large rail would have been better as it eliminates any chance of overloading the rail by mistake. Performance wise the Odin GT 800w never broke stride, powering our overclocked quad-core system without a glitch for 2 weeks of testing. While the voltage readouts were below average, this did not appear to have an impact on the unit’s performance.”
After reading the first review of the Odin GT 550W by jonnyGURU, I’ve always had high hopes for the 800W model. However, it appears that all reviewed Odin GT 800W models have slightly low voltage rails. I’m not too sure why though, since the 800W looks internally similar to the 550W unit, which is made by highly respected Channel Well Technology. Anyways, in the $200-220 USD range, you would likely be better off with the Antec TruPower Quattro 850W, Cooler Master Real Power Pro 850W, or Silverstone Decathlon DA850. Having said that, if you find the Odin GT's unique monitoring features too attractive to pass up, this is still a solid power supply.
