MTRON MOBI 64GB Solid State Drive Review

TweakTown has posted a review of the MTRON MOBI 64GB SATA solid state drive.

Here’s what they had to say:

“The Mtron MOBI SSD 64GB SATA is a great example of Solid-State Drive technology. The drive has proven that it is faster than today’s enthusiast standard, and by a large margin. Nearly every application I used benefited from using the MOBI and I am very impressed with the performance. If you are looking for the next big thing in computing technology, look no further than the Mtron MOBI.”

In my opinion, solid state drives do not yet provide enough real world benefits to warrant their price premium over conventional hard drives. Currently, five manufacturers (Crucial, MTRON, OCZ, Samsung, Super Talent) offer readily available 64GB SSD’s ranging from $1150 to $1400, which is quite a lot of money just to have a system that boots up and shuts down in half as much time as usual.
