Asetek Low Cost Liquid Cooling System Review
HotHardware has posted a review of the
Asetek Low Cost Liquid Cooling (LCLC) kit, which is used in the
HP Blackbird 002 gaming system.
Let’s see what they had to say:
“Water cooling has always been a niche product. But Asetek hopes to change that with the Low-Cost Liquid Cooling system by addressing the core disadvantages of water cooling compared to air cooling and in our opinion they have succeeded. The LCLC is a quiet cooling solution that is more flexible and efficient than air cooling, but most important of all, Asetek has managed to achieve price parity with high-end air coolers. For the price of a high-end air cooling setup, you can now purchase a performance water cooling system. It is for these reasons that we are recommending the LCLC. The LCLC caters to many different types of users, from performance enthusiasts and overclockers to casual users who just want a quiet system.”
The LCLC looks like a well-designed, reasonably priced product. It did a good job cooling the test system (E8500 + 8800GTX, both stock), and can also cope with the 3.67Ghz QX6850 overclocked processor in the aforementioned Blackbird 002, though without cooling the GPU. Because the unit is self-contained, it should offer worry & maintenance free operation for a few years, which is obviously why it is being used by large computer manufacturers like HP. Regarding availability, I could not find this exact product, only the version without a GPU attachment, which retails for approximately $100.
