Gigabyte GA-P45-DS5 Motherboard Preview

Tue 2008-04-15 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Bit-Tech has posted an early look at the upcoming Gigabyte GA-P45-DS5 motherboard, which features the soon-to-be-released Intel P45 chipset.

Here’s an excerpt:

“The P45 chipset is a replacement for the current P35, and like the P35 it supports both DDR2 and DDR3, however this time around it's specifically tuned towards DDR3 instead. As we'd expected, the chipset also provides better support for quad-core and 45nm processors and is also built on a 65nm process instead of the 90nm previous chipsets used, although Gigabyte did tell us that the overclocking of both should be very similar.”

Now that last line is obviously a little disappointing for those of us who expected greater overclocking potential from this new chipset. However, it’s hard to complain about the P35 chipset's overclockability, with most motherboards hitting between 475-500Mhz FSB. The GA-P45-DS5 seems like an excellent product, it certainly has all connectivity features you could ever desire. The elaborate cooling system is typical Gigabyte, and should have no problems cooling the essential bits. I can’t wait to see some actual reviews of this product, and other P45 motherboards as well.
