MSI P7N Diamond Motherboard Review

Tue 2008-04-15 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
CPU3D has posted a review of the high-end MSI P7N Diamond, an nForce 780i SLI based motherboard.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Overclocking the P7N Diamond was easy using MSI's Cell menu in the BIOS. I was only able to overclock our Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to 3.4Ghz (9x383). The CPU frequency was increased from 266Mhz to 383Mhz (that's 1533FSB). I wasn't quite able to push it to 400Mhz. The FSB:DRAM ratio was automatically set to 8:11 ... giving our DDR2 memory a speed of 527Mhz. All-in-all, it's not the best overclock we've had, but it's still a good result.

Pricewise the MSI P7N Diamond will probably cost around £150.00, which I think is correctly priced. You can't really go wrong ... especially when you have a motherboard that's feature-rich, packed with accessories.”

Although not a performance champion, the P7N Diamond is still a decent, feature-filled motherboard. The included Creative X-Fi Xtreme sound card is a nice touch, even if it is based on the same chipset as the Audigy 2 SE and SB Live! 24-bit. Not that it really matters, but the P7N Diamond certainly looks a lot less dreary than the EVGA/XFX reference design nForce 780i SLI motherboard. If you want to save $50-60, and don’t need Triple SLI capability, you may be interested in the new enthusiast-oriented EVGA nForce 750i SLI FTW.
