EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT Akimbo SC Review

Wed 2008-04-16 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
FiringSquad has posted a review of the top-of-the-line EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT Akimbo SuperClocked Edition graphics card. Is it worthy of this impressive sounding name? Let’s find out.

Here’s what they had to say:

“EVGA further sets the model apart by arming it with superior cooling, aggressive standard clocks, and a simple enough bundle that keeps cost down while still addressing the basics. You get two DVI adapters, a component output, an S-video output, and a power adapter. The usual. As a result, the 8800 GT Akimbo does inch its way into GTS territory, but this isn’t exactly a case of owning the most expensive house in a rundown neighborhood. EVGA’s e-GeForce 8800 GT Akimbo is a solid buy.”

By itself, the Akimbo SuperClocked Edition is an excellent product. It has very high clock speeds, a terrific cooling solution, and EVGA’s usual lifetime warranty. However, at $250-290, it is priced too closely to the GeForce 8800 GTS to be a sensible purchase. Having said that, I definitely hope that EVGA makes Akimbo editions of the GTS, GTX and even GX2.
