Intel Cuts CPU Prices By Up To 50%

Mon 2008-04-21 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Although first revealed back in January, Intel’s significant price cuts have finally come into effect, with up to 50% reductions on certain models. They have also introduced two new dual-core processors, the Core 2 Duo E8300 (2.83Ghz, 6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB, $163) and the Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53GHz, 3MB cache, 800Mhz FSB, $133).

Here a few of the more interesting price cuts:

  • Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) $530 -- $266
  • Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) $266 -- $224
  • Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB) $266 -- $183
  • Core 2 Duo E4600 (2.40GHz, 2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB) $133 -- $113
  • Quad-Core Intel Xeon X3230 (2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) $530 -- $266
  • Quad-Core Intel Xeon X3220 (2.40GHz, 8M Cache, 1066MHz FSB) $266 -- $224
  • Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3085 (3.00GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB) $266 -- $188
  • Pentium Dual-Core E2200 (2.20GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB) $84 -- $74
  • Pentium Dual-Core E2180 (2.00GHz, 1MB Cache, 800MHz FSB) $74 -- $64

The Q6700 & X3230 have finally received much needed price cuts, while the Q6600 & X3220 see healthy price drops as well. At $224, the Q6600 is the perfect chip, offering unbeatable Bang-for-the-Buck, and it will definitely siphon sales away from the popular E8000 series, especially since 45nm dual-core processors are chronically Out of Stock.

AMD just cut their prices on April 9th, will they respond with new reductions? We will have to wait and see.
