Xigmatek Achilles S1284 CPU Cooler Review
Benchmark Reviews has posted the first official review of the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 CPU cooler.
Let’s see what they had to say:
“The Achilles S1284 is not the second coming of HDT technology, and it's not quite on par with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, but it still manages to trail directly behind products like the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme despite its flaws. Functionality is a relative term for this article, since Benchmark Reviews compared some of the very best cooling solutions available, yet the Achilles S1284 will still handle some incredible work loads while looking fierce at the same time.”
The flaw in question is with the staggered heat pipes which form the base, since they do not properly cover the entire surface of the processor’s integrated heatspreader (IHS). The S1284 still performs quite well, but you can’t help but wonder how much better it could have been without this design issue. Until they fix the base, I see no reason to recommend the S1284 over the Red Scorpion S1283.
