DDR3 Memory Kit Reviews - Kingston, OCZ, Patriot
Looking for a 2GB DDR3 memory kit? Well, I4U, ThinkComputers, and
TweakTown have reviewed models from Kingston, OCZ, and Patriot.
Let’s see what they had to say:
- I4U: Kingston HyperX KHX14400D3K2/2GN DDR3-1800 Review:
“Overclockers will find that the Kingston HyperX KHX14400D3K2/2GN kit has some headroom for overclocking as well. I was able to get the kit to run at 2000MHz with 2.1V and timings of 8-8-8-24. The machine was stable at these speeds and timings without issue. I couldn’t get any faster or get the timings tighter without random crashes and artifacts.”

- TweakTown:
Patriot Viper DDR3-1866 2GB Memory Kit:
“Patriot has managed to impress us on a number of occasions, and the new Viper Fin DDR3 memory is extremely impressive to say the least. In fact, it managed to achieve some pretty high scores while keeping the voltages at the moderate level. Most boards will be able to supply 1.9v to the DDR3 memory bus without much effort, but it’s when we need beyond 2v that we start to see things getting interesting. Cooling needs to be improved and the boards get a bit more selective.”

- ThinkComputers: OCZ ReaperX HPC DDR3-1333 2GB Memory Kit Review:
“The OCZ ReaperX DDR3-1333 2 gig kit met and exceeded all of my expectations. Besides looking good and keeping cool, I found the kit to actually perform better than my DDR2 kit.
This memory will work in virtually every DDR3 motherboard, operating at the standard DDR3 Vdimm of 1.5v, and at DDR3-1066 and up. At DDR3-1066 I was able to get tight timings of 5-5-5.
Crank the Vdimm up to 1.8v, and overclock to your heart's content. The stock 1333mHz is far from the limits of this memory. At the stock 1.8v, I raised the frequency to DDR3-1731. After raising the Vdimm to 1.86, I got to DDR3-1776. That's a 33% overclock, which I find very impressive.”

The Kingston HyperX is arguably the best kit out of the three, due to its overclocking potential, but it does cost $90 more than the others.
