XFX GeForce GTX 260 640M XXX Graphics Card Reviews

Fri 2008-07-25 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Hardware Secrets and Overclock3D has just reviewed the factory overclocked XFX GeForce GTX 260 640M XXX graphics card, which sports a 640Mz core clock, 1363Mhz shader clock, and 2300Mhz memory clock.

Here’s what they had to say:

  • Hardware Secrets:

“The reviewed video card from XFX was up to 22% faster than Radeon HD 4870, depending on the video configuration used. In some scenarios (some configurations of Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Quake 4) both card achieved similar performance, with HD 4870 being faster on some configurations of Quake 4 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.”

  • Overclock3D:

“Ask on most forums which card is 'best' and the reply will most likely be HD 4870. Best is, however, a figure of speech. If you are talking bang per buck then I have to agree that the HD 4870 is perhaps the better buy than the GTX260 XXX. If you are talking overall power then I would have to edge towards the GTX260 XXX, especially if you are gaming at a higher res and prefer to slap on some AA/AF filtering. The main advantage the GTX260 XXX has over its rival is the additional memory which enables the GTX260 XXX to take less of a hit once the trimmings are applied. With the GTX you are getting a cherry picked card from a top tier manufacturer that has been speed binned for performance. XFX have also included a very good game, which inevitably adds to the cost of the overall package.”

Because of the fact that it is so massively overclocked, this particular GeForce GTX 260 performs extremely well, and is easy to recommend if you can find it for a good price.
