ASUS P5Q-E P45 Motherboard Review
ThinkComputers has just posted a review of the ASUS P5Q-E motherboard, which is based on the new P45 Express chipset.
Let’s see what they had to say:
“Many wouldn't really consider the P5Q-E an economy motherboard considering the price, but their mainstream P45 board with similar features costs $50 more than this board. There is nothing "stripped down" about this motherboard.including the size. It really abounds in features, besides all of the many Asus-specific ones, it has the capability of running three video cards in CrossFireX, heatpipe chipset cooling, eSATA, IEEE 1394, the full compliment of internal connectors, onboard switches, Xpert Drive, SixEngine, the list goes on. You often find econo-boards not very conducive to cable management, but not here. The board overclocked and performed well. What more can you ask for in a lower-priced motherboard?”
It’s too bad that the reviewer effectively ‘gave up’ on overclocking, since that is one of the most interesting aspects of the P45 chipset, aside from proper CrossFire support, of course. Anyways, in my opinion, the P5Q-E is one of most appealing P45 motherboards, since it is a perfect balance between high-end features and low-end price. In particular, I like the good cooling solution, onboard power/reset buttons, and excellent SATA port layout.
