ASUS P5Q PRO & P5Q-E Motherboard Reviews

Tue 2008-07-29 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Hardware Canucks and Hardware Logic have posted reviews of the mainstream ASUS P5Q PRO and P5Q-E motherboards, which are based on the new Intel P45 Express chipset.

Let’s see what they had to say:

  • Hardware Canucks: ASUS P5Q Pro P45 Motherboard Review:

“Once again, ASUS has delivered an exceedingly competent product at a price that almost seems too good to be true. The P5Q PRO enters the mainstream market packed to the gills with great features such as dual mechanical PCI-E x16 (8x electrical) 2.0 slots, three PCI-E 1x slots, eight SATA-II ports, eSATA and FireWire connectivity, top-notch RAID capabilities, twelve USB 2.0 ports, 8-channel high-definition audio codec, 8-phase power design for the CPU, 2-phase power design for the chipset and memory, ExpressGate, EPU…and the list goes on. Many of these features were high-end exclusives just a few months ago, so it’s a tremendous achievement to pack all this functionality into a mainstream price point.”

  • Hardware Logic: ASUS P5Q-E Motherboard Review:

“There is a lot to like about the P5Q-E motherboard. ASUS puts its stamp on the board by providing a well designed and attractive layout. It sports the latest features that you would need to build an mid-range or enthusiast level system along with quite a few extras. The best part about it is the price and how affordable it would be to use this to build upon.

A fact you will have to consider is the looming release of Nehalem later on this year from Intel. How long can you hold out with your current system? Its something that will be an issue for the rest of the year and with all the LGA 775 boards that are released until then. Of course an excellent board like the P5Q-E could hold you over as the new technology comes down in price and the bugs get ironed out. It just depends on how often you upgrade and your plans for the system.”

The P5Q series is proving to be a real winner for ASUS, and it’s not hard to see why when you look at their huge features list and attractive prices.
