Overclocked Radeon HD 4850 Review Roundup - Palit & Sapphire

Tue 2008-08-26 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
ThinkComputers and TweakTown has reviewed two factory overclocked Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics cards from Palit and Sapphire.

Let’s see what they had to say:

  • ThinkComputers: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 Toxic 512MB Video Card Review:

“Besides the impressive performance, the Toxic HD 4850 has a lot going for it, with GPU and memory well overclocked. The Zalman cooler did a good job cooling the GPU, idle stayed around 38C, and load was in the mid-50Cs, a very reasonable temp range for a modern GPU. It comes with a nice bundle.

For $200, the Sapphire Radeon Toxic HD 4850 is a card that should please all but the most demanding gamers, who may have to pay at least another $250 for a card that gives significantly more performance. ThinkComputers.org awards the Sapphire Radeon Toxic HD 4850 a 10 out of 10 score.”

  • TweakTown: Palit Radeon HD 4850 Sonic Graphics Card‏:

“There’s no doubt that we’re going to see more and more HD 4850s with aftermarket cooling hit the market. The Palit is a nice little option that comes with a decent cooler which helps keeps temps down whilst offering a decent overclock on the core.

We don’t doubt performance could have been better. With other brands seeing as high as 2200MHz DDR on the memory, Palit have chosen to keep things more conservative this time around, leaving the memory at an even 2000MHz DDR, which results in a very small overclock.”

If you are in the market for a factory overclocked Radeon HD 4850, these are two excellent options and at attractive prices too!
