680W-900W Power Supply Review Roundup - Antec, BFG & Topower

Wed 2008-08-27 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
OCIA, Overclockers Online, SysOpt, and TechwareLabs have reviewed 680W to 900W power supplies from Antec, BFG, and Topower.

Let’s see what they had to say:

  • OverClock Intelligence Agency (OCIA): BFG Tech LS-680 Power Supply:

“Performance on the LS 680W was also top notch for a budget power supply, leaving very little to be desired. Even with so many nice included features and generous cable reach, the LS 680W will only run you about $120.00 USD at a popular online reseller, which is on the low side for similarly rated PSUs.

In a market with such fierce competition and so many similar products, the BFG LS 680W certainly stands out from the rest with its performance and features, and earns the OCIA.net Seal of Approval.”

  • Overclockers Online: Topower PowerBird 900W Power Supply:

“If not for our use of suggestively dramatic colors, 'green across the board' would apply. Regardless of the amount of load, or the environmental conditions, the PowerBird 900W walked away untouched.

More than performance and price however, the PowerBird comes with quite a few nice features to sweeten the package. Fully sleeved, and finished in a titanium-like chrome finish, this unit looks as good as it performs, not to mention, it is quiet as well. Overall, Topower has put together quite the power supply and we are looking forward to see what the future holds for Topower!”

  • SysOpt: BFG Tech ES 800W PSU Review‏:

“The power supply market is filled with many different vendors, who all offer a range of products, but BFG has added another very nice option at the 800W level. The ES 800W lived up to our expectations, and performed well under different operating loads. At normal usage it stayed very quiet, and at 800W with 80 Plus certification, you will need to really stress the system for the fan to starts spinning faster. The power supply is also very efficient with a competitive $170 price tag, and would be a solid choice for your next system. And that lifetime warranty is the cherry on top.”

  • TechwareLabs: Antec TruePower Quattro 850W:

“If you are looking for an amazing power supply, then you don't have to look much longer. The Antec TruePower Quattro is just that, an amazing power supply. Providing 850 Watts of power, this power house of energy can power pretty much take anything you can throw at it. Providing four separate rails of 12V power, it remains to be quite stable and reliable.”
