Graphics Card Review Roundup - BFG, Sapphire, XFX & More
Guru3D, TechwareLabs, TheTechLounge, and TweakTown have reviewed graphics cards from BFG, Point of View, Sapphire and XFX.
Let’s see what they had to say:
- Guru3D: BFG GeForce GTX 280 OCX review:
“The GeForce GTX 280 is currently the fastest single GPU on the planet, there's no doubt about that. The enigma here is that the Radeon HD 4870 on many occasions can get pretty close to this product's performance, at a far better price (25-30% cheaper). I'm really glad though that NVIDIA adapted to the situation by lowering it's prices significantly. But in certain situations it's still not enough. The OCX version from BFG does make a difference. The standard overclock will boost your overall performance with another 10% and that gives this product a good lead over the Radeon HD 4870. Yet it's still a little too expensive. So I can do nothing other than be honest here, bang for bucks wise, the red colored products just offer more value.”

- TechwareLabs: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850:
“Simply put, the Sapphire delivers a high quality product that simply works after a very simple driver install and provides a robust gaming environment at a very affordable price. As we noted earlier the 4850 is priced at around $180 on Neweg. We feel the HD4850 is sure to provide best bang for your hard earned buck.”

- TheTechLounge: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB Toxic Video Card Review :
“This is the ATI counter-point to the 9800 GTX+: Sapphire's Toxic HD 4850. It may be alone, and it may not be more power-friendly, but it's, ahem, wickedly fast. The icing is that it doesn't really cost more than other HD 4850s--sure, it's on the high side, but it's still cheaper than a 4850 and a Zalman heatsink. The astounding thing is how closely the Toxic keeps up with an HD 4870, cards that cost close to a hundred dollars more.”

TweakTown: Palit Radeon HD 4870 Sonic Graphics Card:
“The thing is, though, the card ultimately performs great. It runs cooler than the stock HD 4870, manages to look a bit better, performs slightly better, costs only slightly more and generally speaking is just pretty kick ass.
If you find yourself wanting something a bit different while also running a little bit faster, the Palit HD 4870 Sonic is a great option. As far as HD 4870s go, there isn’t a whole lot more you could ask for. Throw in the fact that Palit have also added Display Port and the card is pretty feature packed.”

Point of View GeForce 9500 GT Graphics Card:
“It wasn’t looking good for Point of View when the sample arrived, but the bottom line is pulling the card out of the box and seeing that HDMI port brought a whole new perspective to the card.
The native HDMI port really gives us the ability to use the card in a HTPC. And the fact that it runs cooler than the Leadtek option while also being 10dBs quieter makes it an excellent choice for people.
Performance really isn’t there; it’s a little bit faster than the Leadtek option for the most part, but nothing to get excited about. The inclusion of the HDMI port also makes it a little easier to accept the cost of the card when compared to the 9600 GSO.”

- TweakTown:
XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+ Graphics Card:
“When pulling the XFX 9800 GTX+ out of the box and seeing the core speed displayed on the front, I wasn’t 100% sure if it was stock or not. Just double checking, though, I quickly realized that it was overclocked. It was disappointing to see that XFX didn’t make a bigger deal about the fact that it was overclocked, even though the shader and memory speeds remained the same.
With the memory and shader still running at stock speeds, we could see that the older 9800 GTX in a highly overclocked form could continue to beat the overclocked core of the 9800 GTX+ on offer from XFX.”

A GeForce GTX 280, GeForce 9800GTX+, GeForce 9500GT, Radeon HD 4850, Radeon HD 4870, what more could you want?!
