Thermaltake Bigwater 780e Liquid Cooling System Review

Sat 2008-08-30 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
ThinkComputers have reviewed the Thermaltake Bigwater 780e ESA 3-Bay liquid cooling system.

Here’s what they had to say:

“So what do we conclude from the temperatures I got with the Bigwater 780e. Overclock Load temperatures were 14C under my fairly decent air cooler. I don't know that you would get that kind of performance from a high-quality air cooler. Air cooling performance would probably have been less in a different case, the Armor+ ESA is very well ventilated and probably shaved at least a few degrees as opposed to a less ventilated case. I doubt that the ventilation helped the Bigwater at all, since I had disconnected the side fan, and there was no ventilation in the area of the unit excepting its own fan.

The 780e is "compliant" with motherboards based on the nForce 780a SLI, the nForce 790i SLI and 790i Ultra SLI, the nForce 780i SLI, the nForce 680i SLI, and the nForce 680i LT SLI chipset. What that means is that if you want to be able to control fan speed and waterflow, it has to be done from the nVidia performance control panel or ESA dashboard, both available only with ESA supported chipsets.”

If you have an ESA-compliant motherboard and want a self-contained water cooling system, the Bigwater 780e is definitely the first place you should look.
