Intel DG35EC mATX Motherboard Review

Sat 2008-09-20 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Virtual-Hideout have posted a review of the Intel DG35EC Classic Series, a MicroATX motherboard aimed at the HTPC sector.

Here’s what they had to say:

“Everything the Intel DG35EC offers makes it a very encouraging platform for your next HTPC upgrade. A lot of the board's success comes from the improved G35 Chipset and updated X3500 integrated graphics processing unit. The X3500 alone is one excellent feature for freeing up the system's resources and causing less "glitch" as the movie content plays. Also, this chipset is quite capable of feeding all of the latest Core 2 processors with plenty of power and bandwidth. It's also pretty nice watching a DVD without the system's bus being completely consumed by the processor doing most of the work.”

Although you certainly wouldn’t want to play games on it, this motherboard’s G35 Express/GMA X3500 chipset combo is certainly competent for HTPC duties. By the way, although the newer G45 Express/GMA X4500HD combo has been released, it has gotten extremely mixed reviews and I currently would not recommend it over its predecessor.
