HIS Radeon HD 4850 IceQ 4 TurboX Graphics Card Reviews

Mon 2008-10-06 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
bit-tech and Guru3D have reviewed the HIS Radeon HD 4850 IceQ 4 TurboX graphics cards, which is factory overclocked and comes with an aftermarket cooler.

Let’s see what they had to say:

  • bit-tech:

“We like the HIS Radeon HD 4850 IceQ 4 TurboX, we like it a lot in fact. It combines one of, if not the best third party cooling solutions we've tested with a healthy factory overclock and a custom-designed PCB that builds upon the reference design's power circuitry in particular. As you know, we're not particularly impressed with the stock cooler on the Radeon HD 4850 – it's not that it is a bad design, per se, it just doesn't do a good enough job of keeping the card cool without being a little on the noisy side. Without a doubt then, if you're in the market for a Radeon HD 4850, we'd recommend looking at one with an after market cooling solution.”

  • Guru3D:

“So if you'd take a regular run of the mill Radeon HD 4850 you already have a pretty solid product for sure. Bang for bucks wise that thing is the good stuff. When you then start to improve it and are successful at doing so, then you have a really nice product to offer. HIS technology did that once again. The ICEQ4 cooler is both silent and offers much better than reference cooling performance. Next to that, it looks quite nice as well, throw in a little cold-cathode UV light and the thing will shine up like it's radiated .. lovely to look at.

HIS certainly did well with the ICEQ4 TurboX edition of their Radeon HD 4850. It comes customized, slightly overclocked and even then is tweakable.

This product is performing faster than the reference Radeon HD 4850, has really nice cooling and the looks to kill. Highly recommended.”

At $200-210, the HIS Radeon HD 4850 IceQ 4 TurboX carries a noticeable price premium over stock HD 4850’s. However, it does come with a terrific VGA cooler and it is pre-overclocked, two advantages that may justify the extra cost to some users.
