PC Case Review Roundup – Lian Li, NZXT, Tagan & More

Fri 2008-10-10 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Bjorn3D, BurnOutPC, Legit Reviews, and TweakTown have reviewed PC cases from Lian Li, NZXT, Tagan, and Thermaltake.

Let’s see what they had to say:

  • Bjorn3D: Tagan A+ Seenium Case:

“The Tagan Seenium is a decent case for those on a budget. At a retail price of $69.99, it is hard to find a case with so many fan grills. The craftsmanship of the case is excellent and it is built solidly. The bottom mounted power supply is a much welcome feature for case at this price range and the ample of space to work with along with the cable management features are all something that users will definitely appreciate.
The installation process is simple and almost tool-less as Tagan has promised. The fact that both side panels can be removed will definitely come in handy for cable management; especially with the included cable clips. Thumb-screws for the case are a plus and I specially love the fact that Tagan puts all the extra screws on the case so you will never have to look for them.”

  • BurnOutPC: Thermaltake M9D Reviewed:

“The M9D is a nice addition to the large variety of cases that Thermaltake have to offer. But although it looks great from the outside, there are still some flaws in it's design if you have a system crammed full of drives and video cards. For starters the case should have been a bit deeper to use all of the drive spots with larger video cards, secondly there are the noisy fans. You might also not want to use a large heat sink for your cpu because there is little to no room between the 23cm fan and the heatsink if you have a larger than normal fan. Another issue is the harddrive bracket, if you put any hdd's in there than there's not a lot of clearance between the rest of the hardware and the drives. Same for the room on the bottom where you can install drives, there's just not enough room if your using larger cards.”

  • Legit Reviews: Lian Li PC-A7010 All Aluminum Full Tower Case:

“With the time I have spent with the PC-A7010 I now know why some enthusiasts covet the Lian Li cases so much. The build quality is amazing, as it should be for an investment close to $300.
The SATA backplane is a nice feature. It will clean up a lot of cable clutter and make things look very nice, even though it is hidden behind the case side. Speaking of cable clutter, I would also recommend a modular PSU for use in this case. It’s not a must-have as there is space to hide cables, but the space that is available is between the case side and the SATA backplane. With a modular PSU you don’t have to worry about hiding cables you’re not using anyway and it also lessens the chance of snapping a SATA connector.

The PC-A7010 has the ability to house up to 10 hard drives. If you had the cash you could have 10x 1.5 TB hard drives; this should be more than enough for just about anyone’s home theater setup.”

  • TweakTown: NZXT Khaos Full Tower Enclosure:

“Innovations are plentiful as well. The dual zone compartments, the ability to utilize two power supplies, the addition of a three-fan cooling tower inside the box, all of these make for some excellent features that are hard to find in other enclosures. This is only a partial list of the goodies, but you get the gist.

Aesthetically, the Khaos is just different. The curved edges of the side panels makes you think that something is off, but this just gets folks looking at your system. To say that it will stand out in the crowd is an understatement. While it caught me off guard at first, I liked the overall appearance.”

The Khaos is retailing for ~$440, so it is evident that NZXT is aiming to be a high-end player in the case market. It will be interesting to see how well they succeed.
