CPU Cooler Review Round - Cooler Master, OCZ, Spire & More

Frostytech, Overclockers Online, PureOverclock, Rbmods, and Tweaknews have reviewed CPU coolers from Arctic Cooling, Cooler Master, OCZ, Spire, and Thermaltake.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Frostytech: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 LP Low Profile Heatsink Review:

    "The Freezer 7 LP heatsink was next tested with an 85W heat load, which is within its design parameters. Under these test conditions the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 LP maintained a temperature of 31.2°C over ambient at full fan speed, and 44.0°C at reduced fan speed (46.1 dBA, 34.4 dBA respectively). These results are comparable to the low profile Thermolab Nano Silencer TLI-U heatsink, though it faired a few degrees better.

    For its compact size, the Intel socket 775 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 LP heatsink performs satisfactorily on heat loads of 85W or less, so long as its 80mm fan is spinning at full speed."

  • Frostytech: Spire Thermax II Exposed Heatpipe Heatsink Review:

    "On the 85W heat load test, the Spire Thermax II heatsink managed a 9.5°C rise over ambient at stock fan speed, and 14.5°C over ambient at a reduced fan speed. Not much of change there, so you might as well enjoy the silence if your CPU is rated for 85W or lower heat output.

    Given that the Spire Thermax II is nearly identical to the Sunbeamtech Core-Contact Freezer heatsink, it's not surprising that it also performs excellently on both Intel and AMD synthetic test platforms. The only downside is that its 120mm fan is a little on loud at full speed (57.8 dBA according to our real-world measurements), but that's pretty easy to deal with. Recommended."

  • Overclockers Online: Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler Review:

    "In the end, I was very impressed with the Cooler Master V8's performance. Using a total of 8 heat pipes, it makes a strong impression on any enthusiast's heart. The build was solid, installation was a breeze, and it looks very impressive inside of the tower.

    Who would I recommend this cooler to? This product isn't for the everyday computer user; it was designed from the bottom up with the enthusiast in mind."

  • PureOverclock: OCZ Gladiator Max Review:

    "The Max is a cooler with a split personality, equal parts awe and frustration at points. But in the end, however, cooling is king and the performance results speak for themselves, with the Gladiator Max shining. With a price tag of approximately $50 CDN, the performance doesn't cost a fortune and you get a quality product for your hard-earned dollar. If you're in the market for a new heatsink, take at look at the Gladiator Max, we think it's definitely worth considering. Just make sure you get the 1366 bracket when it's available for your new dream system, we definitely will be."

  • Rbmods: Thermaltake SpinQ CPU Cooler Review:

    "The Thermaltake SpinQ CPU Cooler is a solidly design cooler that looks great and gets the job done where it counts. It is one of the easiest coolers to install, has very quiet operations, and moves a lot of air. Thermaltake’s website lists this cooler currently for $80 USD, which is on the higher price end for most coolers. But you get what you pay for in a lot of cases, and in this case the cooler seems worth the money."

  • Tweaknews: Thermaltake SpinQ Heatpipe CPU Cooler Review:

    "With the SpinQ, Thermaltake is breaking new ground in aesthetics and design. The blue LED centrifugal fan and innovative fin design make for an interesting product that is visually exciting and would be a definite asset in a windowed case. As far as cooling performance, it is as good, or better than the majority of high-end coolers on the market at stock voltages. It struggled a bit during the overclocking tests, but at moderate voltages, the SpinQ should still provide more than adequate cooling performance. It also excels at cooling motherboard components, a big plus these days."
