CPU Cooler Review Roundup - Evercool, Kingwin, Scythe & More

Mon 2009-07-06 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
PureOverclock, Tech-Reviews, ThinkComputers and TweakTown have reviewed various CPU coolers from Arctic Cooling, Evercool, Kingwin, Scythe and XtremeGear.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • PureOverclock: Evercool Buffalo HPFI7-10025 CPU Cooler Review:

"The Evercool Buffalo HPFI7-10025 is a very good looking cooler that showcases a rather stylish aesthetic, and with a sharp black and red colour scheme it would look good in any gamer case. While we certainly do appreciate good design, we also happne to think that performance is where it counts; and this Evercool cooler does indeed get the job done very admirably. In our testing we found that it's not quite as efficient as the top HDT smallform coolers, but it does a a fine job at stock and a rather good job at keeping a highly overclocked Core i7 chip in check."

  • Tech-Reviews: Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME Rev.2 CPU Cooler Review:

"As we discovered in the testing, the performance of the Freezer XTREME wasn’t up-to-scratch with the other CPU coolers. This unfortunately limits Arctic Cooling’s target market hugely.

However, there is still light at the end of the tunnel – well kind of. If you’re upgrading or purchasing a CPU cooler based on silence, then I’d definitely say the Arctic Cooling Freezer is a good bet on the cheap. And cheap it is… at just £34 at QuietPC.com it’s certainly a healthy purchase if silence and aesthetics is your thing."

  • Tech-Reviews: Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler Review:

"The phrase ‘bigger is better’ has definitely proved correct in the Scythe Mugen 25. In all tests it proved itself as a worthy CPU cooler. In the temperature tests it made a bold statement at being very efficient when cooling at higher processor stress levels; this would make it ideal for an overclocker or gamer.

With most coolers, you’re normally made to sacrifice quietness for cooling performance. However the Mugen 2 is an anomaly, in fact, it was the quietest out of all three coolers tested. We could hardly hear it at all! It would therefore be a perfect cooler for someone willing to build a silent system."

  • ThinkComputers: Kingwin HTC XT-1264 i7 Ready CPU Cooler Review:

"As with the aforementioned CoolJag Falcon II, the XT-1264's secret has to be in the additional cooling provided by the fins on the cooler base, as my earlier testing with heatpipe direct touch coolers did not show significant improvements in cooling other than the ability to get equal cooling performance using an aluminum base. Whatever it was, it definitely worked, putting the Kingwin XT-1264 in the same class as two coolers costing $70.

Kingwin definitely has a winner here. What else can I say? The XT-1264 is light, quiet, and cools well. I found no issues whatsoever. I don't care much for Intel's push pins, but I have grown accustomed to them, and it is nice to be able to install a quality cooler without removing the motherboard if you really don't want to."

  • TweakTown: XtremeGear Xtreme Cooler HP-1216 CPU Cooler‏ Review:

"In the end I am left with a "kick ass" cooler that isn’t going to be available retail for the masses to enjoy, yet! – However, for those who are looking into a CyberPower PC purchase, they are in luck. XtremeGear unleashed a stylish tower cooler with many included features that allow this cooler to play ball with the other choices already in CyberPowers lineup. The noise level to me is acceptable; once the case door is on I don’t hear much more than a slight hum. I would much rather have a cooler temperature in lieu of less noise and higher temperatures."
