Xigmatek S126384 Thor's Hammer CPU Cooler Reviews

Thu 2009-08-13 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Frostytech and Hardware Canucks have reviewed the Xigmatek S126384, also known as the Thor’s Hammer CPU cooler.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Frostytech:

"And there you have it, the Xigmatek HDT-S126384 Thor's Hammer heatsink offers up very good performance on AMD 125W and Intel 150W synthetic thermal test platforms when paired with an average 120mm 1500RPM fan of moderate noise output. It's not the coolest heatsink in the reference list, nor the absolute quietest, but it will get the job done more than quite well. Weight is a bit of an issue with the S126384 Thor's Hammer though, at 800grams it is hardly a light weight, but for Intel platforms the mounting brackets provide firm retention. If used on an AMD processor, we'd recommend removing the heatsink if the PC is to be shipped anywhere."

  • Hardware Canucks:

"We can rattle on all we want about the base but regardless of its quality, Xigmatek was still able to hold to some respectable numbers. It was also able to defy its own size by offering us a simple, praise-worthy installation process. That in itself speaks volumes about the engineering that went into the design. Indeed, if you take the time to lap the base and pair it up with a good fan (or better still two fans) you will most likely not be disappointed.

All in all, even with the issues we had, the performance of the Thor's Hammer is very good but with a proper amount of attention paid to the details it could have lived up to its namesake: to be a true god among mortals. It is that unfulfilled potential that is in itself a crying shame."

This is an ok CPU cooler, but frankly you can do much better for the money, for example the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.
