Zalman CNPS 10X Extreme CPU Cooler Review
Hardware Secrets, High Tech Reviews, and Legit Reviews have reviewed the Zalman CNPS 10X Extreme, a high-end CPU cooler that supports all modern sockets.
Let's see what they had to say:
- Hardware Secrets:
"Zalman has been a very well known brand for high-performance coolers for a long time. But most of their famous coolers use a round design with the heatsink fins squeezed in the center. CNPS 10X Extreme, however, uses a different design: it has a tower shape with heatpipes, and its black looks gives an excellent impression. In other words, this cooler is simply beautiful!
"PWM Mate" fan controller is fantastic, we have never seen something so practical. It allows CNPS 10X Extreme to be very quiet when no extreme cooling power is required, and also allows that you choose between sacrificing silence for a better cooling or better cooling over silence."

- High Tech Reviews:
"Once again Zalman Tech has come to the plate and knocked it out of the park. In a matter of a month or two when word reaches the forums telling of how well this heatsink performs you will more than likely have a very hard time finding one for yourself. With its ease of installation and barely audible noise level when ran at the lowest and medium levels it will be the perfect heatsink for a large number of people.
Whether you need a heatsink for the new system you happen to be building or you want to replace the old one that has more dirt in it than your garden. Check out the Zalman CNPS 10X Extreme CPU Cooler and you will be adding not only a great performing heatsink but one that will allow you to hear thing other than your computer."

- Legit Reviews:
"Overall I am really happy with the CNPS 10X Extreme. Zalman moved out of their norm and still was able to make a nice cooler. The CNPS 10X extreme is a little on the heavy side, though. At 920g it's no light weight, but it’s not the heaviest cooler we have looked at, either; some of this weight is due to the fan mount/shroud and fan control.
The fan is the CNPS 10X Extreme's one down side. When running at 100% fan speed the fan is getting to where most would call it loud. In an open mesh case I’m certain you will hear the fan, and depending on where the case sits on your desk, you might need to turn the TV up a notch or two. In non mesh cases the fan shouldn’t bother you too much, but it will be noticeable. Knowing this is why I think Zalman designed the PWM Fan Mate to be remote mounted with the extension cable; they knew the end user would want to adjust the fan a lot."

This is an impressive offering from Zalman, but for the same price you buy the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366, which performs just a bit better and has the best mounting system of any CPU cooler.
