Thermaltake CPU Cooler Review Roundup

Wed 2009-08-26 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Hardware Secrets and ThinkComputers have reviewed CPU coolers for Thermaltake.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Hardware Secrets: Thermaltake ISGC-100 CPU Cooler Review:

"Thermaltake ISGC-100 is a very quiet cooler and can be installed on SFF (Small Form Factor) cases. Besides this we could not find any good thing to say about it.

It cooled our CPU a little better than Intel stock cooler under full load, but in idle state its performance was worst than Intel stock cooler. We were expecting more from it, because of its heatpipe design, copper base and a 92 mm fan. And not forgeting that, according to the manufacturer, this fan can offer 15% more airflow than "common" CPU coolers. But even with all this features its cooling performance was awful. It does not have a "cool" looks and it is not easy to install on Intel CPUs."

  • Hardware Secrets: Thermaltake TMG IA1 CPU Cooler Review:

"But when duty time arrived, it really impressed us: TMG IA1 performs better than BigTyp 14Pro and Akasa Nero, cooling our CPU almost like Cooler Master V10.

With its fan in low speed it was very quiet and even then its performance was excellent in our tests. We only didn't like the fan speed potentiometer, with its short wires requiring you to put your hand in the computer "guts" when you need to adjust fan speed. A fan with automatic speed control (by the motherboard PWM pin) could be a better choice."

  • ThinkComputers: Thermaltake ISGC-400 CPU Cooler Review:

"The Thermaltake ISGC-400 being the last of the four ISGC CPU Coolers we had to review here at Think Computers wasn't exactly the best out of the bunch. Personally I would think the 400 would outperform a 300, but this wasn't exactly the case. While it wasn't the best out of the ISGC series it still performed above average comparison to all of the CPU coolers we've tested. The ISGC-400 has a retail price of $59.99, but can be found online for about $45-$55. Overall ThinkComputers awards the Thermaltake ISGC-400 CPU Cooler an 8 out of 10 score."

Thermaltake's CPU cooler roster is decent, but it really can't compare to that of competing manufacturers such as Cooler Master.
