CPU Cooler Review Roundup - Evercool, Scythe, Zalman & More

Mon 2009-09-14 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Legit Reviews, Overclockers Online, PureOverclock, Tech-Reviews, and Verdis Reviews have reviewed several CPU coolers from the likes of CoolAge, Evercool, Rosewill, Scythe, and Zalman.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • Legit Reviews: Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler Review:

"Scythe is known for making affordable coolers that perform. Although the Mugen 2 didn’t fare so well on our overclocked system, it did do nicely with the system at stock settings. The Mugen 2 would be great for someone who is not into overclocking and is looking to replace their stock cooler for something that will be quiet and drop the system temps. Overall I am happy with the Mugen 2. Other than prying the stock LGA1366 backing plate off it was very easy to install."

  • Overclockers Online: Zalman CNPS10X Extreme Review:

"Zalman has stepped away from the cooler design it is well known for and has done a pretty good job. With this step away from the flower design, they also open up a little bit and give you the ability to swap fans. Cooling performance of the CNPS10X Extreme matches their previous top end cooler the CNPS9900LED. They also bring back a new version of the PWM Mate with more options than previous iterations. With a black nickel plate finish the CNPS10X Extreme is sure to compliment almost any setup."

  • PureOverclock: Rosewill FORT120 CPU Cooler Review:

"The Rosewill FORT120 does offer excellent cooling and can handle a highly overclocked Core i7 monster. It doesn't excel in any one particular area but it gets the job done on all fronts. Great performance is offset by very conservative and bland aesthetics, but for $50 if you want to want to hit some good overclocks on your Core i7 chip then you really can't go wrong with the FORT120."

  • Tech-Reviews: CoolAge Orb X120 Transform X120TF CPU Heatsink Cooler Review:

"Coolage, being a fairly unknown brand, have significantly surprised me with the Orb X120 Transform. The CPU heat sink proved itself to perform like a quality piece of hardware as well as looking and feeling like one.

I believe the low temperatures it achieved are due to the unique fin design – which also helped to quieten turbulence. But after analysing the heat sink closely I noted a few ways in which the product could be improved even further, so there’s definitely scope for this heat sink to be a domineering monopoly.

But as it stands, this cooler offers cracking performance, masses of quality and a stunning appearance to finish everything off."

  • Verdis Reviews: Evercool HPK-10025EA LGA1366 CPU Cooler Review:

"The HPK-10025EA is clearly not intended for overclockers or users looking for ultimate cooling performance; in that regard it simply cannot compete with the larger, high-end, tower-format coolers that now dominate the market.

However, its purpose, as a low profile CPU cooler for HTPCs and other small cases, is well catered for and the temperatures are not bad considering the size and surface area of its fins. Compatible with most Intel processors, this CPU cooler is certainly a good candidate for this specific market."
