XFX Black Edition 850W Power Supply Reviews

Mon 2009-09-14 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Driverheaven and JonnyGURU have reviewed the recently announced XFX Black Edition 850W power supply.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Driverheaven:

"XFX’s first PSU certainly is a high quality product with exceptional overall performance. It will be hard to find a unit able to deliver better electrical efficiency than the Black Edition close to its power class. Choosing Seasonic as their OEM was a very wise choice as they not only design excellent units but they also use some of the best quality components during manufacturing. The icing on the cake is the 5 year-long manufacturer warranty which ensures that this unit will be a very dependable long term investment for those who dislike frequent upgrades."

  • JonnyGURU:

"In one swoop, XFX has run in and come up with a winner right out of the gate. The Black Edition 850W is solid, quiet, and once it hits the market in earnest the price should go down to the point nobody working for the competition will be able to sleep at nights. I'm still a little bit on the fence about the styling, but good golly what a performer. Now, if XFX can come up with more units like this with perhaps a less blinding color scheme, their place at the top of the power supply food chain is all but assured."

XFX have definitely made an impressive first entry into the PSU market, but boy is this an ugly product. I understand that lime green is XFX's company colours, but it just looks weird on a power supply.
