GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD5 LGA1156 Motherboard Reviews
Futurelooks and Techgage have reviewed the GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD5, an Intel P55-based LGA1156 motherboard.
Here's what they had to say:
- Futurelooks:
"Overall, the GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD5 is a solid product in terms of performance and stability. Its very aggressive nature makes it a very solid platform worthy of the most avid gamer given the better option ALC889A HD Codec out of the box. When a shot is fired from some distance off, or bullets are ricocheting around you, a gamer wants to hear it! Audio enthusiasts will also appreciate the experience as well.
At a price of $219 US as of this writing, it definitely is no budget overclocker. However, one will find this to be a platform easily worthy of a 200 MHz Bus Clock. That means any Lynnfield processor is going to see a 4.2 GHz unless you happen to have a weak processor. Given Intel’s track record on this, the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor. Just don’t forget to order a very capable CPU cooler to go with that attempt."

- Techgage:
"With the company's P55 launch, Gigabyte has really impressed. After having used the P55-UD5 more than any other P55 to date, I'm comfortable in saying that top to bottom, this board is quality. Everything from the board design, to the features, to the BIOS, to the overclocking-ability... all top-rate. Even simple things like the 100% vertically-mounted S-ATA ports make a difference to me. If it costs little to implement, then it may as well be... it's a nice feature.
If you read the previous page, then you saw just how amazing this board is when it comes to overclocking. Regardless of whether you are planning to pick up the ~$200 Core i5-750 or ~$555 core i7-870, 4.0GHz stable overclocks are a real possibility, as long as you have the cooling solution to tackle the heat. I can confidently say that overclocking Lynnfield is much easier than Nehalem, however, so even on a stock cooler, you could expect at least 3.6GHz from any LGA1156 offering."

It seems like Gigabyte have a real winner on their hands with the P55-UD5, but those on a budget may want to look at the similarly-featured P55-UD4P.
