Zalman CPU Cooler Review Roundup

Wed 2009-09-30 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Hardware Secrets, Modders-Inc, and Tweaknews have reviewed three different CPU coolers from Zalman.

Here's what they had to asy:

  • Hardware Secrets: Zalman CNPS9700 NT CPU Cooler Review:

"The cooling performance achieved by CNPS9700 NT was on the same level of the best coolers we tested with this methodology. It kept our CPU temperature in acceptable values even in the worst conditions. The noise level was reasonable, not inaudible but also not annoying. It is in the same price range of its competitors."

  • Modders-Inc: Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU Cooler:

"The Zalman does bring to the table several things that a lot of coolers don't have though. Like the included Blue LED fan and Power mate Remote that lets you fine tune the fan speeds. The Zalman has some style to it that's for sure and it is rock solid in the benchmarks when it comes down to it. I think it's up to the individual to decide if the price/performance is ratio is worth it to them for this cooler. I personally can't see myself dropping this much money on this cooler even with it's extra features. I think after launch though the price on this cooler will drop down in the range of most other coolers. At that time the value of this cooler will make it a great choice."

  • Tweaknews: Zalman CNPS9900 LED Intel I7 CPU Cooler Review:

" The Zalman CNPS9900 LED cooler can be summed up rather easily. If you in the market for a good looking and extremely quiet cooler and won't be overclocking and moving you computer around much, then this cooler should be considered. The cooler performs reasonably well and should keep your processor cool under stock conditions, but steer clear if you are using a LGA1366 processor and you are thinking on taking this cooler to LAN parties and will be bouncing the computer around from time to time. The missing backplate for the LGA1366 really exposes this cooler to the potential of breaking through the back of the motherboard and thus possibly damaging much more than you had planned. But these are rather special conditions and most won't have to worry about that."

While Zalman's heatsinks have never been #1 when it comes to pure performance, they have historically been unmatched when it comes to their eye-catching design and that is enough for many consumers.
