Prolimatech Megahalem CPU Cooler Reviews

Thu 2009-10-01 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Bigbruin and PC Perspective have reviewed the Prolimatech Megahalem, a high-end CPU cooler.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Bigbruin:

"The Megahalems heatpipe CPU cooler may be Prolimatech's only product, but hopefully that will change. The design and performance are top notch, and during testing it asserted itself as a solid choice for keeping an Intel Core i7 CPU cool.

On the downside, there are a few things to keep in mind. The size and orientation of the cooler means that it might not fit as intended on every motherboard or in every case. In addition, mounting hardware for AMD AM2/AM2+ processors is optional and may have to be purchased separately."

  • PC Perspective:

"From the moment we opened its retail packaging, I knew this heatsink was going to give the competition a run for its money. The overall construction, masterful engineering, and custom mounting system were all top notch and Prolimatech seemed to spare no expense in creating the Megahalem. One of the only drawbacks to purchasing this that you will have to purchase a 120mm fan separately, but most enthusiasts don't have a problem customizing every piece of their hardware so it shouldn't be too challenging. Users can also add another 120mm fan on the other side of the Megahalem to create a dual exhaust system, but they will have to purchase a couple more fan clips to make it work properly. The six copper heatpipes and beautifully milled copper base were integrated perfectly into the dual aluminum fin arrays which made the Meghalem the best air-based CPU cooler I've ever tested with my LGA 1366 test system."

This is one of the very few heatsinks that can challenge (and sometimes surpass) Thermalright's renowned Ultra-120 Extreme, so if you are in the market for a high-end air cooler, definitely check it out.
