Evercool CPU Cooler Review Roundup

Thu 2009-10-08 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Rbmods, ThinkComputers, and Verdis Reviews have reviewed various CPU coolers from Evercool.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • Rbmods: Evercool HPK-10025EA Low Profile CPU Cooler Review:

"The Evercool HPK-10025EA is a good low profile cooler which yields decent temps. Compared to a tower-style CPU cooler, it fared admirably, with temps around 10C higher throughout all tests. There are definitely better coolers out there, but this one packs it all into a small package for a low price of less than $30. A reasonably quiet fan, compact design, and suitable temps are what make this cooler shine. To it's disadvantage, though, it has an overcomplicated installation procedure that forces the removal of the motherboard, which tends to cramp this cooler's rating. Overall, a good, inexpensive product for any HTPC or SFF designs."

  • Rbmods: Evercool Transformer 4 CPU Cooler Review:

"This cooler yields great load temps, and manages to beat the competition by a full 3C at load. The two included fans are made of brittle plastic that breaks easily, but the connectors are sleeved. It has a smooth copper base and a solid mounting kit, even if the motherboard has to be removed."

  • ThinkComputers: Evercool Transformer 4 HPJ-12025 Intel i7 Ready CPU Cooler Review:

"The Transformer 4 will work fine as a replacement for a stock Intel cooler on a rig that will be run from stock clock to a medium overclock. And it should work great on processors that generate less heat than the i7. But at $43, which is the price of the cooler at my favorite online retailer, there are better choices, since no one really knows when building a rig how much overclocking the future will bring. ThinkComputers.org gives the Evercool Transformer 4 CPU cooler a 7 out of 10 score."

  • Verdis Reviews: Evercool Buffalo HPFI-10025 CPU Cooler Review:

"Despite all of the positives there are a few negatives. Formerly, the noise levels are not what they could be and swapping fans doesn’t look a particularly easy process. Also, the fact that a different model is required for different platforms is annoying and I would much prefer all the mounting brackets to be included together.

All-in-all though, the Evercool Buffalo offers a fantastic price vs. Performance ratio and at just £15, there aren’t many coolers that can rival it at this price."

I'm not a fan of the Transformer 4 since there are better performing coolers on the market in the same price range, but the Buffalo is a quite good value.
