AMD Radeon HD 5700 & HD 5800 CrossFire Performance Reviews

Mon 2009-10-19 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Legit Reviews and PC Perspective have tested the CrossFire performance of the new AMD Radeon HD 5700 and the HD 5800 series graphics cards.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Legit Reviews: ATI Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 CrossFire Video Cards:

"The Radeon HD 5770 was slightly slower than the Radeon HD 4890 in the benchmarks, but is still a solid card. Online you can find prices of the GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 slashed all the way down to $159.99 after rebate, so that would the direct competition to the Radeon HD 5770. We didn't have time to benchmark the GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 for this review, but from what we have seen the card should be slightly faster than the Radeon HD 5770 in most benchmarks. Keep in mind that the GeForce GTX 260 lacks DirectX 11 support and future at mind the choice shouldn't be too tough at this price range either."

  • PC Perspective: AMD Radeon HD 5870 Triple CrossFireX Performance Testing:

"Back on track, the truth is that AMD's team has done a hell of a job getting both two-card and three-card CrossFire scaling impressively this early into the GPUs life. Even better is that this CrossFire goodness can be found on less expensive cards - in our recent HD 5770 testing CrossFire scaled nearly as well. So while many of you might think that running a pair of HD 5870s today is overkill, I would imagine everyone is more receptive to the idea of buying a $160 graphics card today and upgrading again in a few months to see 50-75% improvements in performance. AMD definitely has a great thing going with its Evergreen line of GPUs.

And, as I keep repeating, once Eyefinity and CrossFire can function simultaneously, triple Radeon HD 5870s may not seem like such overkill anymore."
