Ultra X4 850W & 1200W Power Supplies Released
Ultra have just released their new X4 power supplies series, which is comprised of seven new models ranging from 400W to 1600W. These new power supplies feature 100% modular cables and a single-rail design. It seems like only the 850W and 1200W models have been seeded for testing, so let's see what the reviewers had to say:
Let's see what they had to say:
- BCCHardware: Ultra X4 1200W PSU Review Posted - Ultra is Back!!!þ:
"The Ultra Products X4 1200W PSU is a beast in a small package. This PSU comes equipped with one massive 85A +12v rail and supports 6 PCIe devices - 3x 6-pin and 3x 8-pin. It is completely modular and features a nice large fan that provides very good cooling to this unit under normal circumstances. When pulling 1000W through this unit some components hit 70°C as measured with an IR Thermal probe, but we experienced no stability issues. It is quite solid and is the second most solid PSU we've ever seen. Power delivery is not very "noisy" at all and is very clean. Overall, this PSU was rock solid and performed like a champ."

- Driverheaven: Ultra X4 1200W PSU Review:
"The Ultra X4 1200W is a very well balanced high output PSU which will please any hardcore enthusiast and overclockers with its brilliant voltage regulation performance and very strong 12V line. However it is also HTPC users and modders who will really enjoy the unit’s all modular design, great acoustics performance and the relatively small size. It is not the cheapest unit you can find on the market right now, but the asking price is reasonable for the overall quality and output power."

- Hardware Secrets: Ultra X4 850 W Power Supply Review:
"Ultra X4 850 W is a honest power supply, being able to really deliver 850 W at 48º C. The main advantage of this unit is having six separated video card power cables, allowing you to build an SLI/CrossFire system with up to three high-end video cards without the need of using adaptors. The high number of SATA (11) and peripheral (nine) power connectors is also an advantage. Its full modular cabling system is a must for users worried about ventilation and cable organization."

- Overclockers Online: Ultra X4 850W Power Supply Review:
"As it turns out, Ultra has been keeping busy despite their absence from the power supply scene. If the X4s showing today is any indicator, Ultra still knows how to put together an amazing power supply.
Ultras new X4 is quite an attractive package. First and foremost, we have rock solid performance. Acoustically the unit is almost inaudible in idle conditions and quiet when it heats up due to its 135mm fan. The unit comes packed with extras and more connectors that one can possible use. When it comes down to it, the X4 is truly a worthy contender to the more established giants in the market and an excellent buy for anyone looking for a high end, attractive looking and with a feature list to match."

- PureOverclock: Ultra X4 1200W Power Supply Review:
"While the Ultra X4 1200W isn't a standout in any one category, it isn't a slouch either, and is a good all-round power supply that offers an attractive combination of features, functionality, and aesthetics. We'll keep our fingers crossed for the final retail price, but the X4 is a solid unit that can certainly provide the power needed for the most demanding systems out there. "

The X4's main strength is the fact that it is really, truly 100% modular, which is rare. The overwhelmingly majority of modular PSUs have non-modular 24-pin ATX , 8-pin EPS, and 4-pin CPU power connectors, if not a few more as well. Performance-wise it seems like a very well rounded design, not really class-leading anywhere, but definitely above average everywhere.
