AMD Radeon HD 5750 & HD 5770 Reviews

Thu 2009-10-22 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Driverheaven, Hardware Secrets, Metku, Modders-Inc, and TweakTown have reviewed Radeon HD 5750 and HD 5770 graphics cards from HIS, Sapphire, and XFX.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • Driverheaven: XFX & Sapphire Radeon 5750 and 5770 Review:

"In terms of the cards being tested today the two 5770's are very evenly matched - both have a 2-year warranty and use the same hardware. They also have very similar bundles, though someone in XFX has made a mistake of choosing BattleForge for their free game when almost every other manufacturer, including Sapphire, adds a voucher for the much more desirable DX11 supporting Dirt 2. If these games don’t appeal to you then base your purchase merely on price when you are ready to shop.

For the 5750 it is a slightly easier choice to make. Sapphire gives us an enhanced cooler, full bundle and the Dirt 2 voucher. XFX offer the reference design and a very basic bundle. Once again it could come down to price on the day of purchase but we feel the Sapphire card offers better value and more desirable thermal performance."

  • Hardware Secrets: XFX Radeon HD 5750 Video Card Review:

"The good news about Radeon HD 5750 is that in the worst-case scenario it achieved the same performance as Radeon HD 4850, being on most situations between 4% and 13% faster than this previous-generation video card. On situations that high-performance is needed, in particular on Far Cry 2 with image quality settings maxed out, Radeon HD 5750 achieved more than double the performance from Radeon HD 4850. And certain configurations that Radeon HD 4850 can’t run (2560x1600 with image quality settings maxed out on 3DMark Vantage and Far Cry 2) the new Radeon HD 5750 can. And the amazing thing is that when Radeon HD 4850 was originally released it cost around USD 200 and the new Radeon HD 5750 costs only USD 140, so you can get similar or higher performance plus DirectX 11 support at a lower cost."

  • Metku: HIS Radeon HD5770 1 GB Graphics Card Review:

"All in all this is one of those products, which sits in a fairly tough spot. On the other hand you can buy the HD5770 and be prepared for the future with DX11 (which I hope gives more than DX10), or you can buy an HD4890 or something equivalent for a smaller price, but the same performance in most cases."

  • Modders-Inc: Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 1GB Graphics Card Review:

"The Sapphire Radeon 5750 did perform much better than I had expected it to. When comparing it against the 4000 series cards we could see that it was a very nice jump in performance, while others stayed very close to the new mid-range low end card. But is it worth the upgrade? I would have to say that if you are on the lower end of the 4000 series cards then yes you need to get it. If you happen to be in the 4800 level then I would say does the new features means enough for you to upgrade."

  • TweakTown: Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 1GB Video Cardþ:

"Really if you don't game above 1680 x 1050, the HD 5770 isn't the best option, with the HD 5750 offering us the number we need in games at max settings - the HD 5770 is going to offer only higher numbers, which won’t impact on your overall game experience that much. The HD 5770 isn't that much faster either that you could turn AA on in your games; performance would just be hit too much."

At the moment, it really doesn't matter what Radeon HD 5000 series brand you pick since they are all based on the reference design. The difference between the HD 5750 and HD 5770 is relatively small but so is the $30 price difference. Ultimately, it all comes down to your budget.
