GIGABYTE & Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 1GB Reviews

Tue 2009-10-27 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Benchmark Reviews and TweakTown have have reviewed two Radeon HD 5870 1GB graphics cards from GIGABYTE and Sapphire.

Let's see what they had to say:

  • Benchmark Reviews: Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Video Card:

"In summary, there's a long future ahead for the Radeon HD 5850. DirectX 11 is the future of gaming, whether the competition likes it or not, and ATI has a huge head-start on absorbing an early market share. Eyefinity is a nice touch and it certainly adds to the gaming experience, but there's such an incredibly small portion of potential users for the technology that in reality the Radeon 5800 series has only its shear graphics power to make the sales pitch. Although the HD5850 is clocked at 725MHz and doesn't have the top-end power (or shaders) as the HD5870, it also doesn't share the same price. For the cost, my recommendation is for the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 DirectX 11 video card. High-performance gamers and multi-monitor power users can't go wrong at this price point, and will only get better."

  • TweakTown: GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5850 Video Card in CrossFire:

"CrossFire HD 5850 is exactly like CrossFire HD 5870 in the sense it doesn't disappoint. We saw some really good performance straight out of the gate and we manage to go through strong and finish off in the same way.

This is quickly going to become a popular option for people who want to get into CrossFire but don't want to spend HD 5870 money. What's great about the setup we tested here today is that it's faster than a single HD 5870. Mind you, this didn't come as much of a surprise due to the fact that when you look at the specification differences between the two there isn't a whole lot. "

While the Radeon HD 5870 is awesome, the HD 5850 is even better, since it offers all of the features, 80-90% of the performance, for 40% less money. A+
