NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 512MB Reviews - MSI & Zotac
HotHardware, techPowerUp, and TweakTown have reviewed two of the just released NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 512MB graphics cards.
Here's what they had to say:
- HotHardware: Zotac GeForce GT 240 AMP! Edition Review:
"The Zotac GeForce GT 240 AMP! Edition performed well in our testing, considering its mainstream price point. The card wasn't quite able to catch its more expensive competition, but for less than ~$100, the Zotac GeForce GT 240 AMP! Edition is a decent performer. It handled all of the games we tested at 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 with 4x anti-aliasing and 16x aniso (where applicable) without issue, and nearly put up playable framerates at 2560x1600, which is no small feat for a mainstream graphics card."

- techPowerUp: MSI N240GT GeForce GT 240 512 MB GDDR5:
"The GeForce GT 240 found its arch-rival in the Radeon HD 4670. While it manages to outperform the Radeon in lower resolutions, the performance increment goes down with increase in resolution. At 1680 x 1050, the performance dips below that of its competitor, and interestingly then, increases with the resolution, although the card's performance levels then lose relevance with today's games. The GeForce GT 240 also edges past the GeForce 9600 GT, the 50% higher shader core count comes to its rescue. The GeForce 9600 GT seems to benefit from its higher number of raster operation units. In simple terms, while older games seem to perform well on the 9600 GT, newer, shader-intensive games benefit from the more powerful shader domain of the GeForce GT 240."

- TweakTown: MSI GeForce N240GT 512MB GDDR5 OC Video Card:
"The Afterburner software from MSI does a good job of giving the GT 240 a bit of life and ultimately offering us some pretty decent performance. Out of the box the performance is just ok and having a look at our benchmark results, we're able to achieve some decent scores at our very high presets. Out of the box you'll probably be looking at 1680 x 1050 at Medium when it comes to gaming, but if you overclock you should be able to either move to 1920 x 1200 or remain at 1680 x 1050 and move the graphics preset up a level."

Thise new model provides decent performance for the buck, but don't expect any miracles. If you can find a GeForce 8800GT/9800GT for the same price, don't hesitate to do so.
