AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 125W CPU Review

Thu 2009-11-26 - Posted by Patrick "MACMAC" MacMillan
Metku have posted a review of the new AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, a Socket AM3 quad-core 3.4Ghz processor. This new model sports a lower 125W TDP, 15W less than the original 140W X4 965 BE, courtesy of the new C3 stepping.

Here's what they had to say:

"As a conclusion the AMD flagship proved to be a very competent package. The next step will be to see how well it copes against Intel's latest LGA1156 platform, but it sure made short work of the older S775-based quad core Q9450. With the C3 revision came a lower power consumption, but 125 watts is still on the high side. Other improvements included better overclocking capabilities and indeed from all I've seen the 965BE seems to hit 4 GHz with ease when paired with a decent air cooler."

AMD have done a good job with this processor. Aside from the lower TDP, C1E support, and higher reference DDR3 frequency support, this new chip brings with much improved overclocking capabilities.
